![]() We’re not just talking about Valentine’s Day, but it is the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation’s annual awareness campaign. What did I find on their homepage? Recipes for pork and a video of a chef preparing braised beef, which proudly showcases their commitment to perpetuating the disease that keeps them in business. They do have some sensible diet tips but it takes a bit of searching to uncover them, and they’re just carefully reiterated suggestions from Health Canada’s Food Guide. I looked through pages of diet information and didn’t see braised beef mentioned anywhere... so why is it on the homepage? This is potentially damaging to the casual, inattentive web-surfer who clicks on the catchiest lure on the page, and who will now assume that braised beef is a healthy choice, even for the faint of heart. In the spirit of Heart Month, here are some better choices for heart health self-education: Enjoy, be enlightened, share with cardio-challenged friends and family. And if you send out valentines, make them yourself on something recycled.
